Design Process for Logo Design & Brand Identity

Artisan Branding Co, Logo Design, Logo Process, Studio

I’ve put this summary together so clients to know exactly what to expect when working with me, explaining each stage and the ‘why’ behind it.

Creating branding is a two way process, I like to work closely with my clients and will regularly request feedback before moving onto the next stage. Crafting design that inspires and speaks to your customers, gaining new sales and growing your business is what I am passionate about.

1. BRAND STRATEGY
All design projects start with a Brand Strategy session. I want to understand your business inside and out, helping you fill in any gaps. During this session (face to face or via video call) we cover areas in detail including - Target Audience, Competitors, Personality, USP, Business model etc.

2. INSPIRATION
During this stage we look at various design styles of existing brands to discuss what style would be a good fit for your business. We create one or more stylescapes (detailed moodboards) which show different options that could work well for the brand. From this we both gain a clear vision for the look and feel of the brand.

3. CREATE & DESIGN
I work up sketches based on the chosen style and present these as logo concepts. A chosen design is then taken forward and drawn up in digital format. Refinements and revisions are made and the logo is then created in different layouts to suit various applications.

4. BRAND ASSETS
With the logo in place, a brand identity is developed to compliment the finished Logo. Typefaces, colour palette and imagery are chosen. Using the new brand identity I can then design artwork for print such as business cards, postcards or vouchers. Printing and production can be arranged by the studio to save you the hassle.

5. DELIVERY
You will receive a digital file containing your logos and brand assets. I am happy to provide advice on how best to roll out your new branding and answer any questions you may have so you are confident to launch your new brand.

Design Process for Hand Painted Signs

Find out more about our Traditional Signwriting process below - from initial site visit to finished project.

1. INITIAL CALL OR SITE VISIT
First things first are finding out the details.
If you have an idea in mind already and branding in place then we will chat through that, alternatively I am happy to work from scratch with a blank canvas and advise what will work best for the space we have to work with. Work is carried out on site for fixed surfaces such as walls and fascias. Smaller removable signage or custom made signage will be carried out at our studio. Measuements and details are taken during the call or site visit so I can provide a no obligation quote.

2. QUOTE PROVIDED
On acceptance of the quote then a deposit invoice of 50% will be taken to secure your dates, cover design prep and the cost of materials. The final payment will be due upon job completion. Payment plans can be arranged on request and split into 3 instalments.

3. DESIGN STAGE
Design concepts and mockups are made to show layout, sizing and positioning to check you are happy with everything. Once approved paper patterns are printed to scale and pounced to create guides for transferring artwork onto walls or sign boards.

4. PREP & PAINT
Surfaces are cleaned, prepped and if needed base coated with your chosen colours. Signwriting enamels are used for lettering and detail for maximum longevity (often outlasting the surface or substrate they are painted on).

Gold leaf is also added at this stage if it is part of the project. 23ct Gold or higher is always used for outdoor locations so no tarnishing over the years occurs. Gold leaf can be sealed with a clear UV based lacquer or backed up with paint for surfaces such as glass or windows that need to be cleaned regularly.

5. PROJECT COMPLETE
And the final and most important stage is to stand back, enjoy your new artwork and be ready to receive lots of lovely compliments from customers, guests and passers by!
